Bimini’s has been part of Kitsilano’s dining scene since 1975, a neighbourhood spot that has seen decades of regulars come through their doors.

Their Grill and Rib Fest felt like a continuation of that familiar approach, simple comfort dishes centred around the grill, with portions that felt suited to a casual meal.

Chicken Souvlaki Platter, classic and satisfying. The skewers were well grilled with a slight char on the edges, and the meat remained tender. The tzatziki added a cooling contrast, while the Greek salad brought a bit of acidity that kept everything from feeling too rich. I found myself going back for another bite of the chicken with extra sauce, which felt like the right way to enjoy it.

Grilled Striploin Steak, hearty and traditional. The steak was cooked with a good sear, and the mushroom sauce added a savoury element that complemented the meat. The mashed potatoes were smooth and mild, acting as a neutral base, while the vegetables rounded out the plate. It reminded me of the kind of steak dinner that does not try to surprise you, but instead delivers familiarity.

BBQ Pork Ribs, casual and approachable. The ribs were tender enough to pull apart easily, coated in a sauce was a slightly sweet. The cornbread had a soft texture, and the coleslaw offered a bit of crunch on the side. I noticed this was one of the more shareable items at the table, something you could settle into over conversation.

Butterfly Grilled Chicken Breast, gently spiced and filling. The Cajun seasoning gave the chicken a mild kick without overwhelming it. The creamy mushroom sauce tied it back to the rest of the menu’s flavour profile, while the corn on the cob added a seasonal touch. It felt like a balanced plate that would appeal to someone looking for something straightforward but still satisfying.

There was a sense of consistency across this feature menu, with each dish aligning with what you would expect from a long-standing neighbourhood grill. I appreciated that nothing felt overworked. It was the kind of meal where you could sit back, eat comfortably, and not overthink what was on the plate.
