Los Cuervos Taqueria & Cantina is a longstanding Mexican restaurant in Vancouver serving tacos, quesadillas, cocktails and more. They offer brunch on the Saturday and Sundays and here are some highlights from our brunch experience.
We started with the Chilaquiles, a traditional Mexican breakfast dish, featuring corn tortilla chip,s housemade salsa roja or verde, layered with feta cheese, sour cream, cilantro, and avocado. A sunny-side-up egg completes the dish, offering a satisfying mix of textures.
We also got a Trio of Tacos including:
Al Pastor: Charbroiled pork in a tangy pineapple adobo paired beautifully with the freshness of avocado sauce, topped with pineapple, pickled red onions, and cilantro. The sweetness from the pineapple contrasted with the savoury pork, creating a balanced bite.
Pescado: Battered codfish taco offered a crispy, flaky texture, complemented by crunchy cabbage and a smoky chipotle mayo. The tomatillo-cilantro sauce added a refreshing layer.
Camarón: Crispy battered prawn taco, with creamy guacamole and lively pico de gallo, finished with a pasilla-tamarind sauce that added a subtle sweetness and depth.
Their tacos are larger being on 6″ tortillas and I thought the fillings and amount of protein was very good.
To finish off, we had the house-made Churros which were fried to a light crisp and dusted with a generous coating of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. They come with a cajeta dip—a smooth, caramel-like sauce that adds an indulgent sweetness.
We also had the Chips, Salsa and Guacamole. The guacamole was creamy and fresh, while the housemade salsa added a bright, tangy heat that went well with the crisp tortilla chips.
