A recent survey from KitchenAid has uncovered interesting insights into how coffee plays a role in the daily lives of Canadians. As coffee continues to be a beloved beverage across the country, this survey sheds light on some quirky habits, spending preferences, and regional trends, coinciding with the launch of the new KitchenAid Espresso Collection in Canada.

Coffee: A Daily Essential for Canadians
The survey shows that coffee is not just a matter of taste for Canadians; it’s a necessity. For many, their day simply doesn’t start until they’ve had their cup of coffee. Whether it’s fuelling them to begin their workday, enjoy breakfast, or even leave the house, 26% of respondents reported they can’t function without that first cup.
For some, coffee takes precedence over other indulgences. A significant portion of Canadian coffee lovers would choose to give up soda, alcohol, or even social media before forgoing their daily brew. This emphasizes how much coffee has become embedded in daily routines.
Caffeinated Cities and Provinces
Among the provinces, Alberta ranks as the most caffeinated, with 69% of coffee drinkers consuming two or more cups per day. On a city level, Ottawa and Halifax take the lead, with over two-thirds of residents consuming at least two cups a day. Meanwhile, Quebec City emerges as the least caffeinated, with a notable portion of its population sticking to just one cup a day.
Coffee Shop Visits: A Treat and a Budget Concern
Despite their love for coffee, many Canadians are mindful of the costs associated with frequent visits to coffee shops. According to the survey, the average Canadian coffee drinker spends around $504 annually on coffee outside the home. This has prompted many (32%) to cut back on their coffee shop visits in an effort to stick to their budgets.
Still, there’s something irresistible about those occasional indulgences. Nearly half of Canadians visit coffee shops as a treat, while others seek drinks they wouldn’t make at home. Brewed coffee remains the most popular order, followed closely by iced coffee and lattes.
Investing in Home Coffee Machines
With such a prominent coffee culture, it’s no wonder that over half of Canadians (57%) believe that investing in a good coffee machine or espresso machine is worthwhile in the long run. For many, this is not only about cost savings but also about convenience and the ability to recreate barista-quality beverages at home.
The KitchenAid Espresso Collection caters to this demand by offering machines designed to make brewing coffee at home both simple and enjoyable. These machines promise premium features, allowing Canadians to craft their favourite espresso beverages effortlessly in their own kitchens.
Regional Coffee Preferences
To celebrate the launch of the KitchenAid Espresso Collection, custom recipes were developed to reflect the regional coffee preferences uncovered in the survey. These include seasonal and creative drinks like Iced Pumpkin Latte with pumpkin spice cold foam for Alberta and a Shaken Iced Honey and Maple Coffee for Ontario, showcasing how local flavours can elevate the coffee experience.
As coffee culture continues to thrive across Canada, the KitchenAid Espresso Collection aims to bring that café experience into homes, offering a range of machines that deliver quality espresso while keeping things quiet and peaceful—ideal for a calm start to the day.
