Gigi’s by Ask for Luigi, a new concept from the Kitchen Table Group, has opened in Coquitlam with a focus on modern Italian fare. They are co-located with the new Nemesis Coffee at the Tricity Pavillion.

The menu highlights house-made pastas, Neapolitan-style pizzas, and mains including sablefish, roast chicken, and steak. Antipasti, salads, and seasonal burrata offerings round out the selection, combining classic Italian techniques with fresh, local ingredients.
During my visit, I tried several dishes:
Burrata + Tomato Jam
The burrata, hand-crafted in Puglia and flown in within 48 hours, was creamy and delicate. It was served with house-made bread and we went with the tomato jam and macerated cherry tomatoes for a sweet and savoury contrast.

Lucia’s Meatballs
A mix of pork, beef, and veal, these meatballs were tender and well-seasoned, served in a rich pomodoro sauce with parmigiano reggiano and basil.

Frutti di Mare
Bigoli nero pasta was tossed with shrimp, squid, cherry tomatoes, and a flavourful uni butter, offering depth without overpowering the seafood.

Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza
This pizza featured a light, chewy crust topped with pomodoro, fior di latte, aged prosciutto, parmigiano reggiano, and fresh arugula. The ingredients were well balanced and the crust had a good char.

Olive Oil Cake
Served with orange syrup, whipped mascarpone, and extra virgin olive oil, this dessert was light, moist, and a fitting way to end the meal.

On the drinks side, we two non-alcoholic choices:
Bottega Sparkling Life
A non-alcoholic sparkling wine with crisp bubbles and a clean finish.

Phony Negroni
A non-alcoholic version of the classic negroni by St. Agrestis, served with orange. It delivered the familiar bitter and herbal notes without the alcohol.

The space at Gigi’s is modern and relaxed, with a comfortable setting suited to both intimate dinners and casual gatherings. The focus on quality ingredients and clean execution was clear across the board. Their patio makes for a cozy setting to dine in on a warm summer night.
