Commodore Ballroom to Be Preserved in 800 Granville Redevelopment

Bonnis Properties has shared plans for a major mixed-use development at 800 Granville, which includes the full preservation of the Commodore Ballroom, upgrades to the Commodore Bowling Lanes, and a wide range of new residential, hotel, retail, and cultural spaces.

The proposal outlines approximately 500 new rental homes, 100 hotel rooms, and five levels of commercial space intended to support Granville Street’s role as an entertainment destination. In response to ongoing housing needs, the project includes around 15,000 square feet of social housing to replace the State Hotel SRAs.

The plan will conserve and rehabilitate several historic buildings: the Commodore Building (including the ballroom, retail, and lanes), the Service Building at 800 Granville, the Cameron Block at 810 Granville, the Clancy Building/Allen Rooms at 816 Granville, and the State Hotel/Norfolk Rooms at 876 Granville.

With the Commodore’s 100th anniversary approaching in 2030, improvements to accessibility and loading infrastructure aim to secure the venue’s continued relevance in Vancouver’s live music and entertainment scene. The building has hosted a range of legendary acts and remains one of the city’s most iconic stages.

The 800 Granville development aligns with the City of Vancouver’s Granville Plan and is intended to strengthen the cultural and residential fabric of the downtown core. Its central location—three minutes from Pacific Centre SkyTrain station—positions it well to serve both residents and visitors.
