The annual Cherry Blossom Festival is one of Vancouver’s most-loved and Instagram-able events, with locals and visitors alike traversing the city to witness the blossoming of more than 40,000 cherry trees, all mapped on its website as well as a downloadable phone app.
The event’s origins can be traced to 8th Century Japan, where viewing parties called Hanami are a traditional and annual occurrence and celebrate life, renewal, and transcience.
In Vancouver, a Sakura Days Japan Fair is scheduled for Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16 at the VanDusen Botanical Garden.
