Northern Bars started with a question from founders Sam and Michelle: why wasn’t the Nanaimo bar a souvenir people brought home from Canada? They developed bite-sized bars made for sharing and travel, then launched the Vancouver company in 2020.
I tried their assorted box, which has four flavours:
- Classic: Dark chocolate ganache, custard buttercream, and a chocolate and coconut base.
- Smokey Maple: Dark chocolate ganache, maple buttercream, and a chocolate and coconut base.
- Saskatoon Berry & Lemon: White chocolate ganache, Saskatoon berry buttercream, and a lemon base.
- Apple & Cinnamon: White chocolate ganache, cinnamon buttercream, and an apple base. This one was my favourite.
I visited their kiosk at Granville Island during a press trip with Fairmont Waterfront this past week. The hotel’s concierges can recommend places to eat and drink around Vancouver and help guests arrange a tour during their stay.
