Metropolis at Metrotown 40th Anniversary Events Guide

Metropolis at Metrotown is marking their 40th anniversary with a two-month celebration featuring immersive installations, community events, and nostalgic experiences running from April 13 to June 14.

The Burnaby shopping centre is introducing a series of interactive exhibits and design elements that reflect their history since opening in 1986. Visitors can explore installations that reference past decades, including visual nods to neon-lit 80s culture and familiar attractions that shaped the mall experience over the years.

At the centre of the activation is an infinity room designed for reflection and photo opportunities, alongside a digital message wall where guests can share personal memories connected to the mall. Screens throughout the space will display archival-style snapshots that highlight everyday moments tied to Metro Vancouver life over the past four decades.

Seasonal décor will be integrated across the Grand Court and surrounding areas, with hanging blossoms, mirrored disco balls, and a LOVE installation setting a celebratory tone. Pop-up elements will also appear throughout the run, including a souvenir shop, themed photo stations, and limited-time retail activations.

A series of scheduled events will take place during the anniversary period. Opening day on April 13 includes a spend-and-receive promotion, followed by a DJ dance party on April 25. A flower market hosted by Manites Flowers will run May 1 to May 10, while select dates in May will feature DIY charm accessories and complimentary engraving with qualifying purchases. A Korean lifestyle market pop-up by Amuse Ground by Artbox is set for June 13, with a finale dance party closing out the celebration on June 14.

The event also includes a community-focused component, with donations tied to reward redemptions supporting Burnaby Neighbourhood House food programs.

With more than 330 stores and direct SkyTrain access, Metropolis at Metrotown remains a central gathering place for shopping, dining, and entertainment in Metro Vancouver. The anniversary programming reflects both their long-standing role in the region and their ongoing focus on shared experiences.
