The immersive Ming Dynasty–inspired gala hosted by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden marked a meaningful moment for the Garden, celebrating 39 years in Vancouver’s Chinatown and setting the stage for their upcoming 40th anniversary in April 2026. The fundraiser took place on September 25, 2025, at Floata Seafood Restaurant, bringing together supporters, community members, and cultural advocates.
The evening focused on cultural storytelling through a series of live experiences. Guests observed calligraphy demonstrations, Hanfu performances, traditional music, incense rituals, and tea ceremonies, each presented in a way that felt intentional and easy to follow.
A special display of original architectural artifacts and archival photographs offered insight into the Garden’s history since opening in 1986 as the first full-scale classical Chinese garden built outside China.
The gala also included a silent auction featuring curated items, with proceeds directed toward conservation work, cultural programming, and educational initiatives that support the Garden’s ongoing role as a cultural landmark.
The celebration continues with the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, scheduled for October 4 and 5, 2025, inviting the wider community to return to the Garden for another weekend of cultural programming.
