City 1 Cafe Vancouver is known for their Hainanese Chicken

If you’re a fan of Hainanese Chicken, there’s a great little mom and pop shop in Vancouver that serves a delicious version of this dish. It’s at City 1 Cafe located in a strip mall at King Edward and 25th in Vancouver (like where the Safeway is).

My friend David @pickydiner brought me to this spot because he thought their Hainanese Chicken was very good.

We ordered their half Hainanese Chicken which comes with 3 bowls of chicken oil rice and a chicken soup from the bones of their boneless chicken. The price isn’t super cheap – it’s $27.25 with the rice and soup but they do use free range chicken.

The chicken was silky, smooth texture and had a gelatinous skin. The chicken oil rice was very flavourful and delicious.

We also had a half dozen BBQ satay featuring chicken, beef and pork skewers which were pretty good. They were nicely marinated and slightly sweet.

For drinks we had the Malaysia Coffee and Lemon Tea.

Other items on the menu include Laksa Noodle Soup; Curry Chicken; Fried Rice & Noodle and more.

It’s a low-key spot with a minimal interior which is also popular for takeout.

City 1 Cafe is located at 54 W King Edward Ave, Vancouver.
