Cantina Social Club, a new Mexican cantina-inspired pop-up from the team behind Michelin Bib Gourmand-recognized Chupito Cocteleria, opens July 22, 2026, inside Pinche Taco Shop at 367 Seymour Street.
Running Wednesday through Saturday from 6 p.m. until late, the concept takes inspiration from the neighbourhood cantinas of Mexico City. The space will feature candlelight, communal tables, greenery, music and a walk-in format with no reservations required.
Chef Maria Ponce will lead the food program, combining regional Mexican flavours and techniques with seasonal ingredients from British Columbia. The menu will change throughout the residency according to local harvests and available produce.
Award-winning bartenders Tara Davies and Erick Vazquez will oversee the drinks menu, featuring British Columbia wines, cervezas and rotating low-waste cocktails. Early previews include a half-frozen, half-sparkling Paloma, Piña Daiquiri, Cantinatini and La Ronda, a seasonal large-format cocktail made for sharing.
Cantina Social Club will also host guest chefs, bartenders, winemakers and producers for collaborative dinners, guest shifts and one-night events.
The resident mascot, Sergio El Bailador, is a dancing skeleton inspired by Mexican folk art and the festive character of traditional cantinas.
