Chaiiwala of London Opens New Café at SFU Burnaby

Chaiiwala of London is opening a new café at Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus on January 9, 2026, bringing their Karak Chaii, South Asian street food, and comfort dishes to UniverCity. The new location is at 9055 University High Street, Unit 5, Burnaby, BC, within walking distance of campus classrooms, residences, and the main retail stretch along University High Street.

The Burnaby opening marks another step in the Canadian expansion of Chaiiwala of London, a café brand known for chai-based drinks and casual South Asian meals served throughout the day. The SFU location is positioned to serve students, faculty, and residents living in the surrounding neighbourhood, which includes a growing mix of dining and daily-use shops.

To mark opening day on January 9, Chaiiwala will offer 50 percent off a selection of menu items. The discounted dishes include Masala Fries, Samosa Chaat, Aloo Tikki Chaat, Any Wala Wrap, Any Toastie, Butter Chicken Roll, and Butter Chicken Poutine. The promotion applies only on opening day.

The menu at the SFU café focuses on familiar Chaiiwala offerings that balance savoury snacks, handheld meals, and sweet items designed for quick visits or longer study breaks. Drinks include Karak Chaii alongside options such as Pink Chaii, while food selections range from Desi Breakfast plates to Bombay Toasties and desserts like Gulab Jamun Cheesecake. The all-day format reflects how students and nearby residents use cafés throughout the day rather than at fixed meal times.

Following the opening, SFU students can receive 10 percent off regular purchases with valid student identification starting January 10. The student discount cannot be combined with other offers.

The café operates daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, aligning with campus hours and evening study schedules. The location joins nearby food options already familiar to SFU students and UniverCity residents, adding a South Asian café option focused on chai and comfort food.
