Parq Vancouver Earns Coveted Gold Certification

Downtown urban resort Parq Vancouver – home to two luxury hotel properties, JW Marriott Parq Vancouver and the DOUGLAS, Autograph Collection – has been recognized by the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC) for setting the gold standard in sustainability and green building practices.

Parq Vancouver Earns Coveted Gold Certification

The CAGBC recently bestowed Parq with a coveted Gold Certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Canada Rating System for New Construction and Major Renovations after the complex successfully completed an independent, third-party verification as part of the LEED® certification process.

LEED® is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability excellence and green building leadership that employs a holistic approach to help owners and developers create high-performing and resilient buildings that reduce carbon emissions, save water, conserve energy and reduce waste.

The LEED® approach also aims to improve the health, comfort, and productivity of all who visit certified buildings by prioritizing human and environmental health benchmarks such as air quality and natural light.

According to CAGBC, buildings generate nearly 30% of all greenhouse gases, 35% of landfill waste, and consume up to 70% of municipal water resources.

From the drawing board through its development, Parq Vancouver’s architectural and building team kept sustainability concerns at the forefront and emphasized the city’s natural surroundings by protecting mountain views as required by the City of Vancouver.

Accessible between JW Marriott Parq Vancouver and the DOUGLAS, Autograph Collection is a 30,000 sq ft rooftop park, featuring hundreds of native pines and local flora which help to offset the carbon footprint as a whole.

Parq Vancouver was built to achieve LEED Gold certification with green initiatives throughout the structure, using as many materials indigenous to Vancouver and British Columbia as possible, including Douglas fir trees, North Shore rock, and native plant life.

The DOUGLAS, Autograph Collection — one of the resort’s two hotels — draws inspiration from the Douglas firs that laid the foundation for British Columbia’s thriving economy.

The seamless integration of elegance and nature is obvious throughout the design and atmospheric elements of the hotel and begins at the sixth-floor check-in area, which is crowned by a 25-foot replica Douglas fir tree encased in glass.

Parq’s innovative use of green spaces seamlessly merge nature with a refined urban environment via an abundance of natural light on the second and third floors of the casino and outdoor spaces that increase pedestrian flow and provide a link to the city’s existing bicycle path network.

Parq Vancouver is one of only 50 developments in Vancouver and 86 in BC to be conferred with the LEED® Gold Certification and one of only five in the province to achieve that status in 2022.

Canada is one of the top territories in the world when it comes to LEED® certification, with LEED® practices resulting in a 4-million-tonne reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions and 3.8 million tonnes of construction waste diverted and recycled to date, according to the CAGBC.

In addition to offering world-class casino gaming, Parq Vancouver is home to  The Spa by JW and numerous restaurants and amenities like Centre Bar, The Victor, Honey Salt, 24/7 Eats, D/6 Bar & Lounge, and BC Kitchen.
