Nam Dae Moon Rice Cake is excited to introduce a healthy meal concept at its Burnaby location.
The Guyuan Rice Bowl, or 谷原菜飯, is a specialty rice bowl inspired by the recipe from Shanghai and other Eastern China regions, and is now on sale for only $6.99, perfect for a snack, a yummy affordable lunch, or a light dinner.
Gu Yuan, meaning “essence of rice” in Chinese, is the foundation concept of the dish.
The rice bowl is based on Cai Fan, or 菜飯 from the Greater Shanghai Area, featuring premium rice cooked with finely chopped meats and vegetables, absorbing all different flavours, and complete as a tasty meal with many essential nutrients.
Our version of the rice bowl, Guyuan Rice Bowl, is prepared with jasmine rice and 7 other ingredients including leafy greens, shiitake mushrooms, fresh taro, lunch meat, cured ham, Taiwanese sausage, and dried shrimp, together, providing an incredible depth of flavour and texture.
While the rice bowl can be a meal on its own, there are freshly prepared dishes available to complement the rice bowl, such as the comforting Shanghai classic, Braised Meatball (紅燒獅子頭, $9.99), the collagen-rich Braised Pork Trotter (紅燜豬蹄, $9.99), and the succulent Braised Beef Shank (滷牛腱), all slow-cooked with a ton of love.
There are also vegetarian options like the Ice Tofu (涼拌豆腐, $6.99, the Vegan “Chicken” Salad (涼拌素雞, $6.99), and the Braised Bamboo Shoots with Scallion (蔥油燜筍, $7.99), all excellent choices for a lighter healthy meal.
The beloved Nam Dae Moon rice cakes and mochi treats are back at the Burnaby location after 3-week closure due to a kitchen upgrade.
However, some items, including the Mochi Cake Taco, the Milky Mochi Cup, the Milky Mochi Ice Cream, and the Mochi Fried Dough Series are only available at the Richmond location.
