Longdhang Shanghai Cuisine is a casual Chinese restaurant on Alexandra Road in Richmond. The menu included Shanghai-style dumplings, steamed buns, fried rice and several dishes intended for sharing.
I visited with my family and ordered a mix of buns, dumplings, fried rice and a tofu dish. The food arrived steadily, and the overall experience was okay.
Dishes We Tried
We began with two baskets of the Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings, with six pieces in each order. The dumplings had soft wrappers and a savoury filling with some broth inside.
I waited briefly before taking the first bite, since they arrived quite hot. The wrappers were slightly thicker than some soup dumplings I have tried, but they held together well and were easy to share around the table.
The Shanghai Fried Rice included greens, mushrooms and small pieces of shrimp throughout the rice. The seasoning was mild, and the grains had a slightly glossy finish.
The Tofu With Crab featured cubes of soft tofu in a thick, savoury sauce with peas, carrots and green beans. The crab flavour was subtle, and the sauce had a gentle sweetness.
The Special Black Truffle Steamed Buns arrived with a small amount of black truffle mixture placed on top, making them easy to distinguish from the other dumplings. Inside, they contained pork filling and broth.
The truffle aroma was present but fairly mild. I used a spoon to catch the soup before taking a full bite, which made them easier to eat. They were interesting to try and brought a different flavour to the table without moving too far from a traditional soup dumpling.
The Shanghai-Style Vegetarian Steamed Buns had soft, fluffy dough with a vegetable filling that appeared to include leafy greens, mushrooms and sesame seeds.
We also had the Pan-Fried Pork Buns, served three pieces per order. They had soft, pleated tops and deeply browned bottoms. Inside, the pork filling was juicy with some broth surrounding it.
