Haywire Winery is marking the Year of the Snake with the release of its Haywire Lunar Red, a limited edition wine crafted to honour Lunar New Year traditions. Known for introducing British Columbia’s first Lunar New Year wine in 2014, the winery continues this annual offering with a blend that reflects both craftsmanship and cultural significance.
Priced at $28.88 per bottle, Haywire Lunar Red is available for pre-order through the Haywire Winery online store. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will support the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, a charity dedicated to preserving and revitalizing Vancouver’s historic Chinatown neighbourhood.
Each order includes a traditional red envelope containing a ticket for admission to the Chinatown Storytelling Centre and a coupon for a complimentary wine tasting for two at Haywire Winery in Summerland.
Haywire Lunar Red combines Merlot and Cabernet Franc, delivering a complex aroma of dark cherry, black licorice, leather, and earthy notes. Its medium-bodied profile is complemented by chalky tannins, stewed fruit flavours, cherry cola hints, fennel, and dark cocoa. The wine finishes with bright acidity, making it an excellent match for dishes like ginger beef, smoky sauces, and wok-seared vegetables.
Established in 2009, Haywire Winery is recognized for its cool-climate wines crafted with a minimalist philosophy. Winemaker Matt Dumayne employs concrete vessels and natural yeast to create wines defined by texture and character. Guests visiting the winery’s tasting lounge can expect tailored service alongside views of Summerland’s scenic lake and vineyards.
