The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre hosted its 9th Annual Herstory Gala at D/6 Bar & Lounge in Parq Vancouver raising funds and awareness for DEWC services. The event brought the community together to celebrate resilience, strength, and empowerment while working toward a fundraising goal to support the drop-in centres.
The evening featured inspirational speakers, live performances, and a powerful fashion show where 20 women of the centre showcased their personal style and confidence. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and engaging auctions with Howard Blank leading the live auction and final bids closing on the silent auction.
Hosted by Madelaine McCallum, the night opened with a territorial welcome from Cecilia Point (Musqueam) and Elder Syexwaliya (Squamish Nation), an opening prayer by Elder Rita Blind, and drumming by the Wildflower Women of Turtle Island.
The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre provides safe spaces and essential support for women — 940 meals served daily, 100 women housed long-term annually, and five sites offering shelter and resources.
