A new sandwich shop has opened on Commercial Drive bringing fresh energy and flavour to one of Vancouver’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

Dante Sandwich introduces a menu of carefully crafted sandwiches on house-made schiacciata bread that balance quality ingredients with bold taste profiles. This Commercial Drive location is the brand’s second outpost, following their original Robson Street location.

Dante’s menu centres on Italian style sandwiches built with cured meats, creamy cheeses, and layered textures, anchored by stracciatella and arugula across much of the lineup.

The cold sandwiches range from prosciutto, salami, mortadella, and spicy capicollo combinations with truffle, basil, or bomba spreads, to a vegetarian option built around eggplant, zucchini, roasted red pepper, and fresh mozzarella.
There is also a selection of grilled sandwiches featuring mixed cheeses, turkey, or prosciutto cotto with provolone. Customization is encouraged with add ons like vegetables and spreads, while desserts include pistachio cannoli, pistachio cookies, and tiramisu.
Here’s what I tried:
Inferno
Capicollo Piccante, Soppresata, Stracciatella Cheese, Bomba Spread, Fresh Tomato, Arugula
Bold and savoury with a noticeable kick, the mix of capicollo piccante and soppressata brings heat and depth, while the stracciatella softens the spice. The bomba spread and fresh tomato add contrast, keeping the sandwich rich but not overwhelming.

Il Veg
Eggplant in Tomato Sauce, Zucchini, Roasted Red Pepper, Fresh Mozzarella, Basil Spread, Taralli Crunch, Pickled Green Tomato, Arugula
A well layered vegetarian option with plenty of texture. The eggplant in tomato sauce provides richness, balanced by zucchini and roasted red pepper, while fresh mozzarella and basil spread keep it familiar and comforting. The taralli crunch and pickled green tomato add brightness and bite.

Formaggi X4
Mozzarella, Provolone, Stracciatella, Grana Padano, Red Onion
Comforting and indulgent, this grilled sandwich is creamy, melty cheeses with just enough sharpness from grana padano. Red onion cuts through the richness, making it satisfying without feeling flat.

Pistachio Cannoli
Crisp on the outside with a creamy, nutty filling, this is a clean, classic finish that feels light enough after a sandwich.

Tiramisu
Smooth and balanced in sweetness.

Espresso Frappe
Smooth with a strong coffee flavour.
There are a few dining tables inside for guests.
