The fame of Spain falls plainly on the Main when Smitty’s Oyster House on Main Street introduces a new Spanish Tapas Bar-inspired food and drink experience during weekly ‘Tapas Thursdays’ at the Mount Pleasant seafood house (3125 Main Street, Vancouver).

Every Thursday throughout the summer from 6 to 8 p.m., a limited number of eight guests can relax around the main bar and with the purchase of sangria, wine, craft beer or cocktails enjoy a rotating menu of free tapas like:
- Pan con Tomate (roasted garlic, Parmeson, EVOO);
- Octopus Tostadas (adobo black bean, salsa verde);
- Shishito Peppers (grilled lemon and roasted garlic Salt);
- Spanish Tortilla (potatoes, onions, paprika aioli);
- Papas Brava (spicy tomato sauce, garlic paprika aioli);
- Charcoal-Grilled Chicken Skewers (roasted garlic yogurt);
- Zarandeado Prawns (spicy chili crunch, lime);
- Choripán (grilled chorizo, baguette, kewpie mayo, chimichurri);
- Crab and Shrimp Empanadas (pickled onions, avocado emulsion)
- Croquetas de Jamón
- Rotating Charcoal Grilled Skewers (pork belly, chicken, shrimp etc.)
The new weekly event is the brainchild of Head Chef Alan Older, an avowed fan of the characteristic, casual, come-as-you-are style and feel of the celebrated Spanish tapas bars where people gather after ending their daily siesta and get set for the night ahead by imbibing and enjoying complimentary snacks and small plates.
The Tapas Thursdays are the latest new addition to a summer menu at Smitty’s that includes fresh new fare such as Seared Scallop Risotto (asparagus, lemon, Grana Padano), Coconut Shrimp (Sriracha mayo, pineapple pico de gallo), Shrimp & Scallop Crudo (Hokkaido scallop, Blue Pacific shrimp, aguachile verde, cucumber, red onion, radish) and Tuna Nachos (marinated Ahi, won ton chips, jalapeño mayo, avocado purée, radish, cilantro), among other dishes.
