Comforting bowls of soups and stews are coming in hot at a new midday pop-up inside Kafka’s Coffee Roasters’ Gastown location.

Hot New GasTown Lunch Bar Dishes up Cold-Weather Comfort Food

Lunch Bar by Kafka’s is a new weekday feature from 11am to 2pm, serving warming one-bowl meals, tasty sandwiches, and a Glory Bowl made from scratch by Kafka’s chef Nitzan Cohen.

This new Gastown lunch destination did its test-run last week at 151 W. Hastings St., and the concept was eagerly embraced by neighbouring office-workers and residents seeking more fast-casual lunch options. Lunch Bar by Kafka’s officially launches today!

Chef Cohen is well known for his incredibly delicious takes on classic sandwiches (he was behind the menus at both Mensch’s Jewish Delicatessen, and Kafka’s Lil Bird Sandwich Co.), and his new lineup of rotating stews will follow suit with a focus on traditional flavours and nostalgic recipes.

Lunch Bar will be featuring two different stews—one vegan and one meat—each week for $13.50, served with a slice of fresh baked focaccia bread.

On the inaugural menu from November 28 to December 2 are Beef Chili topped with shredded mozzarella, Valentina’s sour cream, and cornbread crumble, and Vegan Chili topped with tortilla-chip gremolata.

Kafka’s will also be throwing some friendly collaborations in the mix.

Choice upcoming stew pairings include: Irish Beef and Brassneck Brewery Geezer English Porter stew, and Greek Lemon and Cauliflower; classic Chicken stew, and Winter Veg; Beef Bourguignon, and Three Lentil.
