The restaurant is known for plant-based Chinese dishes, including gluten-based preparations, tofu, vegetables, mushrooms, and wok-fried plates that work well for sharing. I enjoy meals like this because each dish brings a different texture to the table, from crisp vegetables to saucy tofu and fried mushrooms.

The Jai Gluten Combo came with a variety of gluten-based vegetarian pieces served together as a cold appetizer. I found this dish interesting because it offered several textures in one plate, with some pieces being softer and others having more chew. It was a good way to start the meal, especially for anyone who enjoys traditional Chinese vegetarian cooking.

The Spicy Green Beans were one of the dishes I reached for most often. The beans had a firm bite and a savoury wok-fried flavour, with enough seasoning to keep them lively without taking over the table. I liked how simple the dish looked at first, but it became more enjoyable with each bite.

The Eggplant and Tofu was a comforting dish with soft eggplant and tofu in a savoury sauce. The eggplant had a silky texture, while the tofu added a gentle contrast. I usually enjoy eggplant when it is cooked until tender, and this dish had that familiar Chinese restaurant quality that makes it easy to share over rice.

The Deep Fried Tofu brought a crisp exterior with a soft centre. It was a straightforward dish, but satisfying in the way good fried tofu can be. I liked the contrast between the outside and the inside, especially when eaten fresh from the table.

The Deep Fried Oyster Mushrooms had a crisp coating and a meaty texture from the mushrooms. This was one of the more snackable dishes of the meal. I found myself going back to it between bites of the saucier dishes because it added a different texture and a more casual, shareable feel.

Sun Bo Kong Vegetarian Restaurant offered a comforting vegetarian Chinese meal with familiar flavours and a good range of textures. The dishes were best enjoyed family-style, and the table had a nice rhythm between the fried items, vegetables, tofu, and gluten-based appetizer.

For me, the Spicy Green Beans and Deep Fried Oyster Mushrooms were the most memorable. The green beans had the kind of wok-fried flavour that made them easy to keep eating, while the oyster mushrooms added a crisp, savoury element to the meal.

It was a satisfying visit and a reminder that vegetarian Chinese dining can be generous, varied, and very shareable.
