See Ya Later Ranch survey reveals 83 per cent of Gen Z’s say “woo!” when they open a bottle of sparkling

Many of us punctuate our lives by highlighting the moments that matter the most—IRL and on social media—and raise our glasses as we pop, toast and cheers with our favourite bottles of wine.

Though the joy of celebration is universally treasured, how we do this varies across the nation and through generations—and we’ve got the data to prove it.

As we enter into the holiday celebration period, here are some survey insights commissioned by See Ya Later Ranch that reveal how Canadians celebrate with their favourite reds, whites and bubbly, along with a list of top wines to help Canadians do what they do best – celebrate!

We get as loud as a champagne pop: 83 per cent of Gen Zs and 71 per cent of Millennials claim they exclaim “WOO!” every time they open a bottle of sparkling wine.

Life is a Stevie Wonder track; we’re very superstitious: More than half of respondents (55 per cent) have a cheers-ing ritual that they are superstitious about. After the last few years, can you really blame us?

  • Why wait?: 37 per cent of Canadians say they simply have to take a sip immediately after cheersing to avoid any type of bad luck the alternative may bring.
  • The glass is always full: More than one quarter of Canadians (26 percent) would never cheers with an empty glass. Abundance is the name of the game, and you can’t pour from an empty glass—or something like that.
  • Seven years of bad sex? Not for these Canadians:  One in six (16 per cent) of the nation refuses to break eye contact during a cheers.

Make it social media official: More than two thirds of Gen Z’s (64 per cent) and almost one half of millennials (45 per cent) have posted a cheers on social media. If it’s not shared on social, did it really even happen?

Take the party from IRL to URL: 36 per cent of Gen Zs and 26 per cent of millennials have posted someone popping a bottle of champagne on social media.

Liquid courage: More than one quarter (27 per cent) of Canadians claim wine is a “must” at a party where they don’t know anyone.
