La Saison de Pâtisserie Vancouver: Bonbons and Fall Treats

La Saison de Pâtisserie gave me plenty to enjoy on a recent tasting, from colourful bonbons to fall cakes and an Apple Oolong Mochi Croissant. I always look forward to seeing what Chef-Owner Jennifer has been creating.

Colourful Bonbons

I have a soft spot for bonbons, so I was happy to try this colourful selection. The mix of chocolate, fruit, nuts, tea and caramel made tasting through the box a pleasure, with familiar flavours alongside more unexpected combinations.

The nine flavours were Cassis Milk Chocolate, Lychee & Kaffir Lime, Hazelnut, Maldon Salted Caramel, Japanese Sake & Kinko, Cherry Black Pepper, Matcha Pistachio, Cassis Hibiscus and Mango Caramel.

Rich chocolate and caramel, tart cassis, fragrant citrus and nutty flavours offered plenty of variety across the selection.

Apple Oolong Mochi Croissant

I especially loved the Apple Oolong Mochi Croissant, presented for the Metro Vancouver Croissant Crawl. The flaky pastry had a soft, chewy mochi layer, tart apple honey jam and creamy flan infused with roasted oolong tea.

The crisp pastry and chewy mochi made for a lovely contrast in texture. The roasted oolong flavour was my favourite detail, bringing a fragrant tea note to the apple and creamy filling. I would happily have this again.

Fall Cakes and Pastries

Jennifer’s fall specials included the Green Apple, combining vanilla mousse, apple tatin compote and chiffon with white chocolate oat crumble.

The Pumpkin Cheesecake featured miso caramel crémeux, chiffon and milk chocolate pumpkin spice oat crunch, bringing a Japanese touch to a familiar fall dessert.

The Strawberry Cream Cake brought together strawberry confit, roasted strawberries, panna cotta and soft sponge. A Tiramisu Danish rounded out the selection.
