I spent a relaxed afternoon at the Chinatown Storytelling Centre attending the Lunar New Year Sip & Paint event hosted by the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation.

Local artist Justine Crawford guided us through painting a floral lantern and moon scene. Everyone followed the same general idea, but by the end, each canvas looked a little different, which was part of the fun.

There were plenty of treats to enjoy as we painted too. We sampled Haywire Wines, including their limited-release 2026 Lunar New Year Red available at Foo Hung Curios, along with Tealeaves Gold Mountain, Ginger Yuzu and Green Tea. Hype Chocolate Co. Milk Chocolate Lucky Candy added a sweet treat to the afternoon.

It was an easygoing way to spend a few hours, painting, sipping wine and tea, and celebrating Lunar New Year with the community.
