The new experience, Among the Trees with Emily Carr Afternoon Tea, is now available at Notch8 Restaurant inside Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The afternoon tea is inspired by Vancouver Art Gallery’s current exhibition, That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature, which is the Gallery’s largest solo exhibition of Carr’s work in more than 20 years.

The exhibition features more than 100 paintings and drawings, with a focus on Carr’s deep connection to the Pacific Northwest landscape.

At Notch8, that same forest-inspired feeling carries into the dining room, where guests are invited to enjoy an immersive afternoon tea surrounded by the atmosphere of Carr’s signature forest paintings.

The menu brings together art, nature and Pacific Northwest flavours through a mix of savouries, sweets, scones and themed drinks.

The afternoon tea features Honey Cranberry Sea Salt and Classic Buttermilk scones, served with chantilly cream and marmalade.

On the savoury side, the menu includes Woodland Grove, a mushroom mousse tart with hazelnut crumb, and Red Cedar, made with dill salmon, caper olive soil and crème fraîche. Among The Firs features arancini al parmigiano with sesame crust and torched pancetta, while Odds & Ends pairs ahi tuna with a sharp cheddar melt. Tanoo adds a playful bite with coronation chicken panipuri and spicy mango chutney.

Driftwood Shortbread features smoked sea salt caramel, while Tree Ring is a spiced carrot cake roll with cream cheese mousse. The menu also includes Burnt Forest, a chocolate charcoal macaron, and Lowbush Tart, made with birch syrup and blueberry compote.

There is also a loose leaf tea selection with options such as Summer Breeze, Bella Coola, Pomegranate Lemon, Ontario Icewine, Lavender Earl Grey, Jasmine Gold Dragon, Goddess Oolong, Provence Rooibos and English Breakfast.

Guests can pair the tea with a visit to That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature at the Vancouver Art Gallery, on view until November 8, 2026. The Gallery is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM, with Friday hours extended to 8 PM. Admission is $29+, and free for Gallery Members, Indigenous Peoples and children under 18.
