Cowdog is a Vancouver based café known for their pared back menus, playful branding, and a focus on well executed drinks rather than an expansive offering. They operate as a living wage café, where tipping is not required because staff are paid living wages. There is also no additional charge for plant based milk, which reinforces their straightforward approach.

Cowdog’s selective menu includes their signature Iced Strawberry Matcha, alongside a short list of espresso options that range from Straight Espresso to versions with water, a little milk, or a lot of milk. There is also Drip Coffee, plus Hojicha With Milk and Matcha With Milk, both lightly sweetened and clean in flavour.

The pastry selection follows the same curated approach. Alongside the Cardamom Bun, there is a Cowdog Cookie made with White Chocolate, Hojicha Roasted Tea, and Walnut, as well as a Pastel De Nata made with croissant dough, egg custard, and warm spices. The limited selection feels deliberate, with each item chosen to complement the drinks.
On our visit, we tried the Hojicha With Oat Milk (Lightly Sweetened), an Espresso, and the Cardamom Bun. The Hojicha drink was smooth and gently roasted, with the oat milk adding body while keeping the tea’s flavour intact. The espresso was clean and direct, a solid expression of their coffee program. The Cardamom Bun stood out for their soft texture and aromatic layers of butter and cardamom sugar, making it an easy pairing with the drinks.
